Daniel B. Kingsley, P.E.

Mr. Kingsley has over 18 years of healthcare experience in providing operations and systems reengineering consulting. He has provided consulting services to a broad range of clients from small rural hospitals to large urban academic institutions and multi-hospital systems.

Prior to joining MEDCO in 1981, Mr. Kingsley was a Senior Management Engineer at the Corporate Office of Intermountain Health Care, Inc. His responsibilities and accomplishments included the implementation and maintenance of a labor productivity management system for ancillary departments in Intermountain's twenty-one hospitals and was the primary operations consulting resource to a tertiary care pediatrics facility.

He has broad experience in the areas of operations improvement, development and implementation of hospital-wide labor productivity management programs, hospital cost accounting systems, and nursing systems. His significant depth of experience has been gained through the review and analysis of all hospital areas and departments. A partial listing of Mr. Kingsley's experience include:
  • Managed hospital-wide operations improvement projects that resulted in actual cost reductions and service improvements of from $2.0 to $4.0 million per client.
  • Managed the implementation and maintenance of labor productivity management programs in over 20 hospitals and multi-hospital systems.
  • Consolidation of services engagements ranging from combining the laboratories of two large hospitals, assessing the feasibility of consolidating pharmacy service among 8 facilities to consolidating material management, pharmacy, dietary and laboratory services in a three hospital regional healthcare system.
  • Directed and participated in over 30 Surgical Services reengineering and operations improvement engagements that included significant involvement with the Medical Staff and Anesthesia Services.
Mr. Kingsley holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering degrees from Oregon State University, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Utah. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and Oregon.

Mr. Kingsley is a member of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants, Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Society for Health Systems of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He has published articles and papers on operations and cost improvement, and cost accounting system integration. He has presented management development workshops for the US Veterans Affairs hospitals and other organizations.
